Is polygamy wanted in Islam and forbidden in liberalism

We want to put our perceptions and convictions associated with polygamy under a microscopic test, namely, the following two popular scenarios:
The first view is that Islam urges polygamy and wants it, and this perception exists in both the Shari’a and others. It has even been believed with some that polygamy is part of the Sunnah, and having one wife is not from the Sunnah.
The second scenario is that liberalism forbids polygamy and prevents it, and this perception arose in the minds of people as a result of a large number of liberalists - or of the Western values ​​system in general - to prevent polygamy and the oppression of Muslims because of it.
These are the two scenarios we want to test and see whether they stem from evidence or are they the result of indoctrination and random deliberation?
To do so, we must answer two questions:

Does liberalism reject polygamy and demand that it be prevented?
Does Islam ask and urge Muslim men to marry multiple women?

إننا نريد أن نضع تصوّراتنا وقناعاتنا المرتبطة بتعدد الزوجات تحت مجهر الاختبار، وأعني تحديدًا تصوّرين شائعين مشهورين:

التصوّر الأول: أن الإسلام يحث على التعدد ويرغّب فيه، وهذا التصوّر موجود عند الشرعيين وغيرهم على حدٍ سواء، حتى شاع عند بعض الناس أن التعدد سُنّة، وأن الاقتصار على واحدة ليس من السنة.

التصوّر الثاني: أنَّ الليبرالية تحرّم التعدد وتمنعه، وهذا التصوّر نشأ في أذهان الناس نتيجة كثرة مطالبة المنتسبين لليبرالية _أو لمنظومة القيم الغربية عمومًا_ بمنع تعدد الزوجات، والتشنيع على المسلمين بسببه.

هذان التصوّران نريد أن نختبرهما ونرى هل هما ناشئان عن أدلة أم أنهما نتيجة التلقين والتداول الفكري العشوائي؟

وحتى نفعل ما مضى، لا بد من أن نجيب على سؤالين:

  • هل الليبرالية ترفض تعدد الزوجات وتطالب بمنعه؟
  • هل الإسلام يطلب من المسلمين التعدد ويحثهم عليه؟
